1. Temperature and Environment

Dubia roaches thrive best in warm, tropical conditions. Aim for a temperature range between 85°F to 95°F to keep them active and encourage breeding if you are maintaining a colony. Humidity should be kept relatively low (around 30% to 50%) to prevent mold and excess moisture buildup. Use smooth-sided plastic storage bins or tanks, as roaches cannot climb smooth plastic surfaces.

2. Housing and Ventilation

Provide plenty of vertical surface area using egg crate flats. This reduces crowding, minimizes stress, and gives them places to hide. Ensure the lid has a fine wire mesh screen for adequate ventilation while keeping your insects securely contained.

3. Hydration (Without the Drowning Risk)

Insects need water, but traditional standing water bowls are a drowning hazard. Instead, use clean hydration gels, moisture crystals, or fresh, high-moisture vegetables like carrots, squash, and leafy greens. Remove old, rotting produce regularly to keep the enclosure clean and mite-free.
